Politics

I don't care, I don't care...I just don't care. I really don't want to hear ONE MORE THING about the election. I don't want to see the "President-elect". Isn't it bad enough that my Tuesday night television programs were pre-empted so we could see "History" being made, do we have to pre-empt daytime tv too?

What's Barack Obama going to do? He, like every other president, has little actual power. He's making it sound like he's going to solve the credit crisis singlehandedly...RIGHT.

Extending unemployment benefits? Who is going to pay for that? Oh, yeah, right, those of us who actual HAVE jobs. Same with every other change...

And BTW, Barack Obama is a TERRIBLE public speaker. UHHHH...

Home

Well, we made it home yesterday around 1 PM. And I have mixed emotions! On one hand, I was very glad to see my kids and the dog and cats...on the other, I wish I had stayed in FL.

Of course, this morning, my dear husband is grouchy and we are out of toilet paper. Could have sworn I asked the girl to go to the grocery and buy some while we were gone. Well, guess I'll be heading for the grocery right after work to pick up toilet paper. Some things never change.

It's time to get ready for work :(

Going Home

Well, it's been a (mostly) good week in Florida and now it's time to go home.

And I'm ready to go home. One week spent with my husband as my only company is about all I can stand. So, the only thing left up in the air is if we'll drive all the way today or stop somewhere along the way...

Just a quick update...yesterday we went shopping at Downtown Disney. It was fun, but there were WAAAY too many little kids. I wonder if there is ever a time when there aren't any screaming brats at Disney. Makes me realize I don't like kids and makes me thankful that mine are grown.

Oh well, time to start packing up. See you when we get there.

I'm in a REALLY BAD MOOD

OK...as an adjunct to the previous post:

I am so upset and hurt right now. I am willing to put up with 5+ days on the beach for 2 nights in LBV. Just because Greg really likes the beach...but he won't even TRY to enjoy himself here. What a crock of shit.

So, what to do, what to do??? I just won't go on vacation with him anymore. Simple solution. If he wants to go to the beach, he's more than welcome...it just won't be with me. And if I want to go to Disney, well, I'll find someone who actually will have a good time.

That's all for now.

Travelling Day

So, today we said goodbye to the beach, much to Greg's utter regret (and my joy). I really do not like being on the ocean for a very long period of time. But I suffer for my hubby. It makes him happy.

Of course, he wasn't so happy to be going to Lake Buena Vista. He kept his displeasure under control until AFTER we checked into our room at the Quality Suites, Lake Buena Vista. Then we got into a royal screaming match. Well, I screamed, he just looked at me like I was nuts (and so, I am)...You see, I got such a great deal on a 2 room suite ($63.99 + tax/night), that I figured the one drawback (no smoking) was no big deal. Apparently, I was wrong. I should have spent $100/night so we could smoke. Not a deal in my mind. We need to slow down or quit anyway.

Oh well, I don't care. I'm right across the street (sort of) from Disney World. We are trying to decide if we are just going to shop and eat or actually go to the parks. I think shopping and eating is going to win.

I'm going to cut this short. Going to go sit by the pool and smoke a cigarette. Jealous yet?

Chameleon

I forgot to mention one cool thing that happened on Monday.

Greg was sitting by the pool and I came down after lunch to join him. He said there was a lizard in the pool. A what??? I asked him if lizards could swim and then started thinking about it. I had been in that pool and it was very, very cold. I could only manage to make myself go in to the top of my thighs. What would that do to a cold-blooded reptile?

I walked over to the deep end (which was where the little guy was floating). The first time I reached in to get him, he sluggishly swam away. I immediately thought about coming up under him, so he could climb on my hand and get out. Of course, I started thinking about him running up my arm and into my bathing suit, but decided the ickiness would be worth it to get the lizard out of the pool.

He jumped right on my hand and stayed there while I gently set him on the pool deck. Poor little guy was frozen...cold-blooded creatures cannot manufacture body heat and so, if we hadn't rescued him, he would have probably frozen to death...and the way they clean the pool here, he would have decomposed in the bottom of the pool...

After a while, he warmed up and scampered away. Wonder what he thought about his icy swim...and of course, this was the one time I didn't have a camera!!!

Monday

We didn't do much on Monday. I sat by the pool most of the day and got a little pink. My legs are still ghostly white. I wonder if, as you get older, your body becomes tan-resistant??? LOL. I'm always looking for some excuse.

Greg spent most of the day walking up and down the beach, looking for shells. I swear, if we ever retire to Florida, we need to live on the Gulf Coast, so he can shell every day. Keeps him occupied for hours! Of course, he got burnt on the tops of his feet from the reflection off the sand. And he sat at the pool with me for a while, and burnt the rest of his body. He will be tan today, and I think I will hate him.

The sun's not quite up yet, but it is very cool on the balcony. And I mean it's temperature cool...according to the news, it's about 50 degrees out there. Guess we brought the crappy temps with us, since I've heard it won't even get above 50 in Cincinnati. So glad I'm not there right now.

Today, who knows what we'll do...maybe hang out in the room, maybe walk on the beach...I do like walking in cooler temps. Kinda brisk and bracing...

I've taken a lot of pics. The link is in the post from yesterday.

Our Autumn Trip

We left Cincinnati on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:50 AM. The weather was cool and clear as we left and expected to be that way all week. We are heading to Ormond Beach, FL for 4 nights, 5 days and then over to Lake Buena Vista for 2 nights, 3 days. I'll try to update a little each day.

Saturday was a travel day. We drove all the way from Cincinnati to Valdosta, GA down I-75. I had thought about taking a slightly different route, through the Carolinas, but Greg decided that we should go the way we always have. And it honestly turned out for the best, as I-40 was closed around Knoxville, TN.

We playfully argued about the heater in the truck on the way down, with me calling Greg a wimp several times. This is one time I really wished I had driven my Bonneville, as it has dual climate control and he could've cranked the heat on his side. But as we got farther south, the cold became less of an issue.

Traffic was fairly light. We averaged about 75 MPH through the whole day. Could've easily gone faster, but I am really leery about getting a speeding ticket in this truck! Already got one, because it goes really fast, without even thinking about it. Of course, I was having issues being passed by all the snowbirds (who are ancient) and by little Saturn sedans...but I figured I'd let them get pulled over and I could drive by laughing (and it did happen...an older gentleman in a Cadillac CTS went FLYING by and 20 minutes later, the Georgia State Patrol had him on the side of the road). We saw one major drug bust on the way...3 cop cars, guy in handcuffs on the side of the road. Drug dogs searching the trunk...almost thought it was "Cops". Pretty funny.

We stayed at the Days Inn in Valdosta, GA. There are 2, one at exit 22 and one at exit 18. We chose the first one because it was getting late, I had been driving for 12 hours and I was getting very tired. Plus it was about $20/night cheaper. Hmmm, that should have been a clue. The area was a bit on the shady side, but I didn't care. I paid $47 + tax for the room and it was barely worth that. It did have free WiFi, which is extremely important for me. The room was a decent size, with a baby coffee pot and it was clean. But there was a funky smell to the room. The windows were kind of disreputable looking, but all in all, it was OK for just an overnight. The staff was friendly. The worst thing was when I went to take a shower before we left on Sunday Morning...there was NO shower head. So, I was grungy for the rest of the trip.

Sunday, we got up early and were on the road by 8:30 am. We stopped at the next exit for McDonald's coffee and then another few exits down the road for gas. We didn't stop at the Florida Welcome Center, weren't in the mood for fresh FL OJ, I guess. I miss the old white coquina building, but the new one is very nice and modern.

Traffic was light until we got to Gainesville. Then for some reason, all the lanes were full of stupid drivers. And they were stupid. We cut over onto State Route (or is it US Route) 40, which goes through the Ocala National Forest. We had found this way a few years ago, when I-95 was undergoing some major construction and the FL Welcome Center gave us this route. It was a really nice drive through the forest and so, we go this way every year.

The Ocala National Forest and the surrounding smaller State Forests were hit hard by the 1998 Firestorm and it's really interesting to see the difference in vegetation every year. They have a major reforestration project going on and it seems to be coming along nicely. This year, I swear I saw a sleeping (dead) bear on the side of the road, but other than that, I haven't really seen too much wildlife on this route.

We got to Ormond Beach around 1 PM and stopped at the store to get ice and beer. While Greg was inside, I called and woo hoo, our room was already prepared. We drove to the Quality Inn and Suites on the Beach and Randi checked us in very quickly.

We stayed in this hotel about 2 years ago, when Kaitlyn was with us and I really liked it. So, when I got a good rate through my Farm Bureau Membership, I couldn't resist. The elevator seems to have an issue, but since our room is right by the stairs, it's not too big a deal. We got room 301 and it has 2 queen beds, a full kitchen, dining area, 2 chairs, a loveseat, a desk, various other furniture and STILL feels like a big room. We are oceanfront, with a nice balcony.

The temps today are supposed to be high 70's, so I guess I'll go get sunburned. It's supposed to be markedly colder tomorrow and Wednesday, but heck, at least we're not in Cincinnati and not working.

I'll update more as the urge strikes. Pictures can be seen at www.picasaweb.google.com/JacquiBee/FloridaVacation2008part1. Enjoy!

Changes to this blog

Well, since the quizzes were a flop, I decided I would change this to whatever I feel like writing, rather than start another one.

So, while I still might add in a quiz or two, this is mostly for my random thoughts, trip reports, or whatever else I might feel like doing!

Have a good read and leave me lots of comments...
