So, I forgot to update while we were on vacation. I guess we were just having too much fun.
The week passed without much to note. I mean, we had fun, did typical vacation things, were total slugs and I read (actually reread) several books. Kaitlyn continually made fun of me being on FB while on vacation. What can I say? I enjoy the social interaction! Plus I can't let Mom beat me on the games without a protest...ha ha ha.
The weather was really nice the whole time we were there. I think it rained one night.
Our 25th anniversary came and went. Greg and I went to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner. I've decided several times over the years that I have NOTHING in common with my husband. We ran out of conversation within 10 minutes. This is why I have to have other companions on vacation!
The only bad thing on the whole vacation was a group of people from Ohio and Kentucky who were also staying at our hotel. They were obnoxious, selfish and just general pains in the ass. One of them would get up early every morning and score all the best lounge chairs around the pool. Then as they each recovered from the night before, they would wander out to the pool. Once there was a large enough crowd, they would play their boombox and it wasn't pleasant. In the afternoon, they would drag out their cornhole boards and set them up on the walkway to the beach. They were rude enough to glare at anyone who was audacious enough to want to go to the beach. And the cornhole continued on into the night. This was EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.
Oh well, all in all, we had a good time. Left on Saturday morning and got home on Saturday night.

Vacation 2010 Day 2 Part 1
Sunday, September 12, 2010
We dawdled in our overnight hotel room for most of the morning. Since we were only about an hour above Daytona Beach, we really didn't see the need to hurry. Plus Kaitlyn was being a total slug and didn't want to get up. I had to practically push her out of bed so we could check out on time.
The BW St. Augustine had a free continental breakfast. It was fairly basic: toast, english muffins, cereal (cold and instant hot), coffee, juice, etc. They had the wafflemaker and I tried to make a waffle. I failed. Ended up with waffle pieces. There was limited fruit (some apples and some canned peaches). But still, it worked.
It was hot and humid. As I checked out, Greg, Kait and Daniel hung out by the car. When I came out, they were cracking up. There was a woman who had stayed at the Wingate next door in the parking lot, screaming at a blackbird and chasing it all around the parking lot. It was quite comical.
We arrived in Daytona Beach around noon. I called the hotel and was told we could check in around 12:30 or 1. So, we went to Subway for lunch. Just an FYI, the Subway in Ormond Beach/Daytona Beach does NOT have pepper jack cheese. Kait and Greg were very disappointed. And while we were eating, another person from OH came in and asked for it. I thought that was funny.
We checked in without incident and got our requested room. I'll write more later. For now, I'm going out to enjoy the morning sun.

2010 Vacation Day 1
September 11, 2010
Yes, I know it is the ninth anniversary of a tragedy. And I spent some time reflecting on any changes. Then I finished packing, loaded the car and we were off to Florida.
Traveling this year are my daughter Kaitlyn, her boyfriend Daniel, and my husband Greg. Theoretically, this is supposed to be our 25th anniversary trip. And yes our anniversary is on Tuesday, but honestly, this was just an excuse to get away from home for a little while.
We left Cincinnati around 10 AM under overcast skies. We must have set a world record for NOT stopping at every rest area along the way. We only stopped at the welcome centers for TN, NC and FL. Didn't stop at SC because it's only about an hour from NC. And we tried to stop at GA, but the place looked like a ghost town because the restrooms were closed. I drove the entire way (do you expect anything different???). We stopped in St. Augustine, FL for the night. Stayed at the Best Western. Decent room and got a decent discount with AARP. Thank goodness Greg is old and can belong to AARP. We were supposed to stop in Yulee, FL, which is the first exit in FL, but I must have been daydreaming and drove right past. It worked out because Jacksonville was playing at home on Sunday and we would have gotten caught up in all that traffic. More in the next post...

Truth in Food
Lately, I've been noticing that the food I buy, when prepared, looks nothing like the picture on the box. I would be willing to chalk that up to my ineptitude; however, I have one product that is just a flat-out lie/ripoff.
I bought Kroger's Meal in a Minute (or something like that) Pot Roast. It sounded good and the package said it was 2 servings. Perfect, I thought. It's just Greg and I most nights, so this would be good...well...IT WASN'T 2 servings...There was one stingy piece of meat about 2" by 3", little carrot flakes and a small pouch with barely one serving of mashed red potatoes...Looking at the nutrition label, the numbers were low and I thought that would be good. Ha. You need to just count this as one serving and be done with it.

Social Media
Since no one ever reads this, I feel quite secure in venting.
With all the social media available, a sensitive person is bound to get their feelings hurt. And quite often, it's a family member who does it to them.
This has happened to me several times this week and I'm tired of it. So tired, in fact, that I am seriously considering unfollowing/defriending a few people. Why should I read their updates? Every time I comment on one, I'm either defriend/unfollowed or I get a rude remark, basically telling me to mind my own business. OK, that's good. That's what I'll do. But please, don't ask me for anything anymore.

A sunny day in January
The sun is brilliant today. As I stood outside enjoying the light (if not the heat), my hope was reawakened. There must be a Spring waiting right around the corner! I spent some time watching bands of little birds darting about and I was curious. Were these just stragglers from the massive hoards of birds who migrated a month ago, poor little souls who didn’t make it to the South? Or were they advance scouts, looking for a new place to nest? And either way, will they actually meet up with the families who left them behind?
And one other quick question (I am at work, so nothing lengthy): Why does 72 feel quite warm in the summer and on the edge of cool in the winter? Our thermostat is reading 72 degrees and I’m comfortable, but not likely to break out in shorts. In the summer, that’s what we keep it at and it’s a tad warm some days…weird.
