Yes, I know it is the ninth anniversary of a tragedy. And I spent some time reflecting on any changes. Then I finished packing, loaded the car and we were off to Florida.
Traveling this year are my daughter Kaitlyn, her boyfriend Daniel, and my husband Greg. Theoretically, this is supposed to be our 25th anniversary trip. And yes our anniversary is on Tuesday, but honestly, this was just an excuse to get away from home for a little while.
We left Cincinnati around 10 AM under overcast skies. We must have set a world record for NOT stopping at every rest area along the way. We only stopped at the welcome centers for TN, NC and FL. Didn't stop at SC because it's only about an hour from NC. And we tried to stop at GA, but the place looked like a ghost town because the restrooms were closed. I drove the entire way (do you expect anything different???). We stopped in St. Augustine, FL for the night. Stayed at the Best Western. Decent room and got a decent discount with AARP. Thank goodness Greg is old and can belong to AARP. We were supposed to stop in Yulee, FL, which is the first exit in FL, but I must have been daydreaming and drove right past. It worked out because Jacksonville was playing at home on Sunday and we would have gotten caught up in all that traffic. More in the next post...
